Karnataka cabinet portfolios out: DKS keeps finance, check full list

Karnataka chief minister D K Shivakumar on Wednesday allocated portfolios to the 23 ministers in his cabinet, before the state assembly's monsoon session begins. DK Shivakumar retained key portfolios including finance, cabinet affairs, personnel and administrative reforms, intelligence, information, law and justice, parliamentary affairs and legislation, agriculture marketing, town and country planning, and urban local bodies under BDA and BMRDA. He will also hold all unallotted portfolios. The sanctioned strength of Karnataka’s council of ministers is 34, including the CM. After the expansion, the cabinet now has one vacant berth.According to the order issued by governor Thaawarchand Gehlot’s office,B.Z. Zameer Ahmed Khan has been given housing, while Ramalinga Reddy will handle forest, ecology and environment. Lakshman Savadi has been assigned co-operation, excluding agricultural marketing. Rudrappa Manappa Lamani will take charge of sugar and textiles.
Cheluvarayaswamy will take charge of major and medium irrigation. Madhu Bangarappa has been assigned primary and secondary education, while Basavaraj Raya Reddy will handle higher education. Shivalinge Gowda has been given excise, which has been transferred out of the finance department. Puttaranga Shetty will oversee animal husbandry and sericulture departments, while Vijayanand Kashappanavar has been assigned small-scale industries and public enterprises.

Congress had taken nearly two months to expand the ministry after Shivakumar and the first batch of 13 ministers were sworn in on June 3. Nineteen ministers were subsequently inducted, adding to the pressure on the leadership to settle competing demands over portfolios.
