The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast heavy rainfall accompanied by gusty winds in parts of Tamil Nadu over the next three days, with the Western Ghats and adjoining districts expected to receive the most intense showers.
According to the IMD, heavy rain is likely in Coimbatore, Theni and Tirunelveli districts, along with the Nilgiris, on Thursday and Friday due to a weak atmospheric circulation over the coastal areas of northern Tamil Nadu. The weather system is expected to enhance rainfall activity across the state, particularly in hilly and ghat regions.The weather department has advised residents and travellers in vulnerable areas to remain cautious, as spells of heavy rain may be accompanied by gusty winds.The wet spell is expected to continue into Saturday, with isolated heavy rainfall forecast over Theni, Tenkasi and Tirunelveli districts.
Moderate rainfall is also likely through Sunday in several districts, including Chennai, Tiruvallur, Kancheepuram, Chengalpattu, Ranipet, Vellore, Tirupattur, Tiruvannamalai, Villupuram, Tiruchirappalli, Karur and Madurai. Light rain is expected at isolated places across the rest of the state.In Chennai, the sky is expected to remain partly cloudy, with moderate rain likely in some areas during the evening or night on Thursday. The city's maximum temperature is likely to hover around 36 degrees Celsius.According to IMD maximum temperatures across Tamil Nadu and Puducherry are expected to remain near normal, while rainfall activity will remain concentrated over the Western Ghats and parts of northern and interior Tamil Nadu during the next few days.
