Eight people, including three children, lost their lives and over 40 others were injured after a pickup vehicle overturned in Gujarat’s Valsad district on Wednesday afternoon, police officials said.
According to Superintendent of Police Yuvrajsinh J Jadeja, the accident occurred around 2 PM in the Kaparada area when a group of people was travelling to attend a social event. “The pickup vehicle overturned during the journey. More than 40 people sustained injuries, while eight people — including three children, three women and two men — died in the incident,” he said.The injured were rushed to nearby medical facilities for treatment, and their condition is being closely monitored. Authorities have launched an investigation to ascertain the cause of the accident.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed grief over the incident and conveyed condolences to the bereaved families.In a post on X, the Prime Minister's Office said, "The loss of lives due to a mishap in Valsad, Gujarat, is saddening. My thoughts are with the bereaved families in this hour of grief. Praying for the swift recovery of the injured."Local administration and police teams remain at the site, continuing rescue and relief operations as further details are awaited.
