A stronger dairy sector means better nutrition, secure farmer livelihoods and a more resilient rural economy. With a daily milk production target of 10 lakh litres and direct subsidies for our dairy farmers, we are laying the foundations of a self-reliant Assam. https://t.co/K5fYFPsuY4

The Chief Minister pointed out that per capita milk availability in Assam remains below the national average, highlighting the need to boost local production and strengthen the dairy supply chain. As part of the initiative, the state government has set a target of producing 10 lakh litres of milk daily. It is also providing direct milk subsidies to farmers to encourage dairy farming and support their incomes. The government is planning to establish mega dairy processing plants across the state to enhance milk processing capacity, improve handling facilities and strengthen the organised dairy sector.
Sarma also highlighted the commissioning of a milk processing plant in Sonitpur district with a capacity of 20,000 litres per day. The facility is expected to strengthen the state's processing infrastructure and improve the availability of processed milk. The initiative comes amid efforts to bridge the gap between local milk demand and production while creating better market opportunities for dairy farmers.
