Tamil Nadu’s major opposition party AIADMK on Wednesday unveiled its first list of 23 candidates for the upcoming Assembly elections scheduled for April 23, renominating party chief K. Palaniswami from his home constituency of Edappadi in Salem district.The AIADMK, which is leading the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) in the state, retained several senior leaders in its initial list. These include K P Munusamy, Dindigul C Sreenivasan, and Natham R Viswanathan, reflecting the party’s strategy to bank on experienced faces in key constituencies.

The party also fielded prominent leaders from the western region, considered its stronghold. Among them are S P Velumani, P Thangamani from Thondamuthur, and Kumarapalayam, signalling a focus on consolidating its support base in the region.While Tamil nationalist party Naam Tamilar Katchi (NTK) has already announced candidates for all 234 Assembly seats, the AIADMK has become the first major political party in the state to release its candidate list, albeit partially.The announcement marks the beginning of intensified electoral activity in Tamil Nadu, with more parties expected to unveil their candidates in the coming days as the state gears up for a crucial Assembly contest.
