The Congress on Friday released its first list of 39 candidates for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.Of the 39 candidates announced, 15 are from the general caste and 24 are from SC/ST/minorities. Rahul Gandhi has been fielded from the Wayanad seat in Kerala.Congress General Secretary KC Venugopal announced the first list of candidates on Friday, a day after the party's Central Election Committee (CEC) held a meeting in New Delhi.Shashi Tharoor will fight from Thiruvananthapuram, a seat he has held for three terms, while Bhupesh Baghel will make his Lok Sabha electoral debut from Rajnandgaon in Chhattisgarh.Some of the other big names on the list are Congress General Secretary KC Venugopal, who will contest from Alapuzzha in Kerala - a seat he had won in 2009 - and DK Suresh, brother of Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar, who has been fielded from Bengaluru Rural.

The party will hold its second Election Committee meeting on March 11 to discuss the names of candidates in the remaining state for the upcoming Lok Sabha polls.The party announced the candidates for Chhattisgarh, Karnataka, Kerala, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Sikkim, Telangana, and Tripura.
