Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday received the first Lata Deenanath Mangeshkar Award for his selfless service to the nation and society at the 80th annual Master Deenanath Mangeshkar Awards ceremony in Mumbai.The award has been instituted in the memory of Lata Mangeshkar and will be given every year to a person for exemplary contribution towards nation building, a statement by the family and the Master Deenanath Mangeshkar Smruti Pratishthan charitable trust said. Incidentally, April 24 marks the 80th anniversary of the death of Master Deenanath Mangeshkar, the singing legend's father."When the award is in the name of an elder sister like Lata Didi, it is a symbol of her oneness and love for me. So, it's not possible for me not to accept. I dedicate this award to all the countrymen," said PM Modi after receiving the first Lata Deenanath Mangeshkar Award.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi took to the stage with Asha Bhosle along with her sisters to receive the Lata Deenanath Mangeshkar Award. After receiving the award, PM Modi paid a tribute to the late legendary singer and spoke highly of her contribution to the field of music for over several decades.
