What to do in dengu fever

Dengue fever is a viral illness transmitted by Aedes mosquitoes. If you or someone you know suspects they have dengue fever, it's essential to seek medical advice promptly. The management of dengue fever primarily involves supportive care. Here are some general guidelines to reduce the severity and complications of dengue:
Stay Hydrated: Drink plenty of water, oral rehydration solutions, or other clear fluids to stay hydrated and counteract the dehydration caused by fever and reduced oral intake.
Pain and Fever Management:
Use paracetamol (acetaminophen) for pain and fever relief.
Avoid aspirin, ibuprofen, and other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) as they can increase the risk of bleeding, which is a concern in dengue fever.
Rest: Ensure that you get adequate rest to help the body recover faster.
Monitor for Warning Signs: Seek urgent medical attention if you notice:
Severe abdominal pain or persistent vomiting
Rapid breathing
Bleeding from the nose or gums, or blood in vomit or stools
Fatigue or restlessness
Cold or clammy skin
A sudden drop in platelet count
Follow-Up: Even after recovery, follow up with your healthcare provider to ensure complete recovery and monitor for any complications.
Avoid Mosquito Bites: Even after contracting dengue, you can be infected by another strain of the virus. To prevent this and the transmission of the virus to others:
Use mosquito repellents
Wear protective clothing like long sleeves and pants
Use bed nets if sleeping during the day
Keep windows and doors closed or ensure they have protective screens
Eliminate mosquito breeding sites by emptying, covering, or treating any items that hold water.
Supportive Care: In severe cases, hospitalization might be necessary to provide intravenous fluids, monitor vital signs, and manage any complications.
