In Vietnam, a boat carrying capsized near Phu Quoc Island, killing 15 Indian tourists. Authorities confirmed to news agency AP that a total of 15 Indian tourists are among the people who have died in the incident on Saturdy. The boat was carrying 32 Indian tourists and four crew members when it capsized near Hon May Rut Ngoai Island off Vietnam’s Phu Quoc, 18 people had been rescued by early afternoon, the authorities said. The total number of casualties is yet to be confirmed.
According to the Indian Embassy in Hanoi, search and rescue operations are underway, and the Indian mission has set up control rooms to assist those affected. Sharing the update on X, the embassy wrote, "In a tragic incident, a boat carrying several Indian tourists has capsized near Phu Quoc Island in Vietnam. Exact details of the incident are being ascertained as search and rescue operations by local authorities are ongoing." The report added that sea conditions off An Thoi were rough at the time of the incident. Although there was no rainfall, tourist boats were continuing to operate in the area when the accident occurred.
Local authorities initiated a rescue operation soon after the boat capsized and a search for the passengers onboard is underway. Several nearby tourist boats rushed to the scene after spotting the overturned vessel and joined the rescue efforts.
