President Ram Nath Kovind has said that Uttar Pradesh is a vibrant example of unity in diversity. Addressing the Special Joint Sitting of Uttar Pradesh Legislature organised to mark 'Aazadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav' year in Lucknow on Monday, the President said that the social, cultural, economical and geographical diversity of Uttar Pradesh makes its democracy more strong. Kovind said, he is confident that Uttar Pradesh will soon become a one-trillion dollar economy. He said, the Ground-Breaking Ceremony of Uttar Pradesh Investors’ Summit in Lucknow was a testimony for the state.
President Kovind added that Babasaheb Dr.Bhim Rao Ambedkar rightly said, the seeds of Indian democracy were not brought from the western world, but its clear examples are found in the Sanghas of Buddha times. He said, today’s Kaushambi and Shravasti were flourishing democracies in the ancient world. The President said, he is delighted to see the current Legislature representing various sections of the society. He said, Uttar Pradesh State Assembly has 47 women members which is a welcome sign, but the representation of women in Legislature must be enhanced further. Mr Kovind said, Uttar Pradesh has given the nation the political stalwarts like Jawahar Lal Nehru, Lal Bahadur Shastri, Indira Gandhi, Chaudhari Charan Singh, Atal Bihari Vajpayee and many more. He added, the state has given nine Prime Ministers to the country.
The President lauded Uttar Pradesh for being the largest producer of foodgrains. He further said, the state is also the largest producer of mango, sugarcane, potato and milk. He said, the infrastructure has improved in recent years. mr Kovind said, Prime Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath have provided a stable government to the state. The President also remembered his previous visits to Uttar Pradesh, where he visited Kanpur, Gorakhpur, Sant Kabir Nagar and Varanasi. Kovind said, each visit to Uttar Pradesh comes with an opportunity.
Besides, UP Governor Anandi Ben Patel, Chairman of Legislative Council Kunwar Manvendra Singh, Assembly Speaker Satish Mahana, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, Leader of Opposition in Assembly Akhilesh Yadav also addressed the session. This was the second address to the Joint Sitting of Uttar Pradesh Legislature by the President. In January 2013, President Pranab Mukherjee had addressed the Uttar Pradesh Legislature.
