US Secretary of State Rubio greets India on Independence Day

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday greeted people on the occasion of Independence Day and said, powered by 140 crore Indians, the country is scaling new heights of progress across different sectors. Modi also paid tributes to the countless freedom fighters whose courage, sacrifice and unwavering commitment ensured the end of colonial rule.He said the dreams of the freedom fighters continue to inspire everyone as people work together to build a "Viksit Bharat".
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has greeted the people of India on its 80th Independence Day, asserting that the bilateral ties were stronger than ever due to the personal relationship between President Donald Trump and Prime Minister Narendra Modi. In a statement issued in Washington DC on Friday, Rubio said the deep ties of friendship and family between the people of the two countries form the foundation of a partnership that is innovative, resilient and forward looking. "On behalf of the United States of America, I extend warm congratulations to the people of India on their Independence Day," Rubio said.
Top US senators and political leaders emphasised the strong bilateral partnership with India ahead of its 80th Independence Day, saying the country's achievements and its people continue to inspire communities around the world. In a slew of messages, Senators, Governors and lawmakers from the US Pacific Northwest states of Montana, Washington, Alaska and North Dakota honoured the contributions of Indian Americans to the cultural fabric, economic vitality and civic life of these regions, including as innovators, entrepreneurs, educators, artists and professionals across diverse sectors. Governors and senators of states across the US - from New York to Seattle - have issued proclamations announcing that August 15, 2026 will be commemorated as ‘India Day’ in their respective jurisdictions. 
Union Home Minister Amit Shah has lauded diaspora organisation Foundation of Indian Americans New England for its commemoration of India's Independence Day in Boston, with Massachusetts Governor Maura Healey issuing a special proclamation to mark August 15, 2026, as 'India Day' in the state. The Foundation of Indian Americans (FIA) New England, led by its president Abhishek Singh, hosted the International India Day Parade and Freedom Festival for the fifth consecutive year in the historic Boston Harbor, on August 9.
