The Samajwadi Party (SP) on Monday released its first list of 159 candidates for the upcoming Assembly election in Uttar Pradesh. Among the key faces named in the list are party president Akhilesh Yadav and jailed party MP Azam Khan. Jailed Samajwadi Party MP Azam Khan will contest the upcoming assembly election in Uttar Pradesh from his home turf Rampur, The Samajwadi Party has also announced Abdullah Azam, Azam Khan's son who was also in jail for two years and recently got bail, as the party's candidate for the neighboring Suar constituency.

Shivpal Yadav has been given the party ticket from Jaswantnagar constituency.Brahmin face of the party former minister and sitting MLA Manoj Pandey has been renominated from Unchahar seat in Raebareli district. BJP has been criticising the SP for not releasing its list of candidates formally.
