In Karnataka, one person died and more than a dozen workers are suspected to be trapped after an under-construction building collapse in Bengaluru on Tuesday.The incident took place in East Bengaluru’s Hennur area in the wake of heavy rains in the city. Bengaluru has witnessed consecutive spells of heavy rainfall this week, with major water-logging in several parts of the city. The downpour is expected to to continue until October 24, as per the India Meteorological Department (IMD). Waterlogging has thrown life out of gear in parts of the city, with children having to miss school and passengers missing flights and trains. Residents of an apartment complex in Yelahanka on the outskirts of Bengaluru were also evacuated using boats after heavy flooding. Rescue teams have reached Babusapalya, where the building is located, and efforts are on to clear the debris and pull the trapped people out. Three people have been rescued so far.

Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar, who holds the Bengaluru Development portfolio, said pumps have been pressed into service to drain water from apartments and low-lying areas and teams from the state and national disaster response forces are carrying out relief work.
