After making a successful entry into the United States, Indian dairy giant Amul has now forayed into Europe, launching its fresh milk products in Spain and the European Union. The Gujarat Co-operative Milk Marketing Federation Limited (GCMMF), which markets Amul, announced a strategic partnership with Spain’s premier dairy cooperative, Cooperativa Ganadera del Valle de los Pedroches (COVAP), to bring Indian dairy to European consumers. The official launch event took place at the Embassy of India in Madrid and was attended by Dinesh K Patnaik, Ambassador of India to Spain, along with senior officials including Fernando Heredia Noguera, Deputy Director for International Relations and Community Affairs at the Spanish Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food. Ricardo Delgado Vizcaíno, President of COVAP, and senior representatives from Amul and its Spanish distribution partners were also present.
This collaboration marks the first time Amul's fresh milk products will be available in Europe. The initial rollout will cover Madrid and Barcelona, followed by expansions to other cities including Malaga, Valencia, Alicante, Seville, Córdoba, and Lisbon in Portugal. Amul also plans future launches in Germany, Italy, and Switzerland. Jayen Mehta, Managing Director of Amul, reportedly stated, “We are very pleased to enter into an association with COVAP, a respected Spanish dairy cooperative. This partnership will ensure our Spanish consumers are nourished with the goodness of Amul milk.”
Highlighting the broader goal of international expansion, Mehta added, “It is our great pleasure to bring the taste of India to the world. As we look forward to the International Year of Cooperatives in 2025, we aim to bring Amul closer to every Indian across the globe and showcase the strength of cooperative collaboration.” Amul is the world’s largest farmer-owned dairy cooperative with 3.6 million dairy farmers. It processes over 12 billion litres of milk annually and has a turnover exceeding USD 11 billion. With over 2,000 farmer-members and a modern dairy plant processing more than 400 million litres of milk annually, COVAP exports to over 30 countries, including the US, the UK, and multiple Asian markets, according to information. This strategic alliance signifies a major step in Amul’s ambition to position itself as a truly global dairy brand, delivering high-quality Indian dairy products to international markets.
