Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Sunday said that high inflation and poor law and order in Karnataka are the contributions of the Congress government. Responding to Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s statement that injustice was meted out to the state by the Centre, Sitharaman said the state’s economy worsened mainly due to the hike in prices of fuel, milk and stamp duty as well as poor capital expenditure. “The contribution of the state government is high inflation, much higher than the national average. And how I am saying that? Inflation between June 2023 and June 2024 the national average was 5.4 per cent. Karnataka is at 6.1 per cent,” Sitharaman, who is a Rajya Sabha member from Karnataka, told reporters in Bengaluru.
Between June 2023 and June 2024, while average National Inflation was 5.4%, in Karnataka it averaged 6.1%.

On the contrast, during June 2022 to May 2023, Karnataka experienced lower Inflation of 5.39% compared the national average of 6%.

Sitharaman continued, "Industries are leaving, and I do not want to name those companies. As law and order worsens, industries are more scared to stay and want to leave." "SC/ST funds are being syphoned off, and the blame is placed on everyone else. Under this administration, Karnataka, which was once healthy, revenue surplus, and spending on capital expenditure, attracting investments, is now driving investments away," Sitharaman criticised the Siddaramaiah government.
