The domestic share market indices ended higher on Friday, snapping a four day losing run, led by buying across metal, oil & gas and private banking stocks.At close, the Sensex was up 362.57 points or 0.48 percent at 76,515.43, and the Nifty was up 24.25 points or 0.10 percent at 23,897.70.For the week, BSE Sensex and Nifty fell nearly 1% each.
SBI Life Insurance, Tata Steel, HDFC Life, Reliance Industries and Trent were the top gainers on the Nifty, while losers included HCL Technologies, Coal India, Maruti Suzuki, Bharti Airtel and Bajaj Finserv.On the sectoral front,the Nifty Metal index was the top performer, rising more than 1%, followed by private banks and oil & gas stocks. Auto, IT, PSU Bank, pharma and realty indices declined around 0.5% each, according to agency reports.The broader market traded mixed with Nifty Midcap index slipped 0.2%, while the Smallcap index gained 0.2% to hit a fresh record high.
Rupee Close:
On 4 Sep'26,the Indian rupee rises 2 paise to close at 94.49 (provisional) against the US dollar on Friday, supported by optimism over rising foreign inflows and a rise in risk appetite, according to agency reports.Forex traders said the rupee is set to strengthen due to robust foreign capital inflows and active RBI intervention.However, rising crude oil prices and escalating US-Iran geopolitical tensions may cap these upside gains.
