The domestic share market ended on a positive note on Tuesday, the monthly expiry day, led by gains in pharma, media and PSU banking stocks.At close, the Sensex was up 286.98 points or 0.37 percent at 77,656.09, and the Nifty was up 115.50 points or 0.48 percent at 24,334.55.
Adani Enterprises, Interglobe Aviation, Max Healthcare, Apollo Hospitals, Adani Ports were the top gainers on the Nifty, while losers included Cipla, HDFC Life, Hindalco Industries, ONGC and Coal India.On the sectoral front, consumer durable, infra, IT, media, pharma, PSU Bank up 0.5% each, while selling was seen in the energy, metal and private bank.The broader indices were mixed, with Nifty midcap index rising 0.5 percent, while smallcap index ended marginally lower, according to agency reports.
Rupee Close:
On 25 Aug'26,the Indian rupee pared initial losses and settled for the day higher by 24 paise at 95.46 against the US dollar on Tuesday, driven by positive domestic markets, a weaker greenback, and a fall in crude oil prices.Forex traders said the overall weakness in the US dollar on declining odds of a rate hike may support the rupee at lower levels.
