Sensex down 307 pts, Nifty below 24,100 amid higher crude prices

The domestic share market traded lower on Monday as renewed tensions between the US and Iran leading to a rise in crude oil prices weighed on investor sentiment.At close the  Sensex was down 307.24 points or 0.4 percent lower at 76,957.27, while the  Nifty declined to 24,080.40, down 95.25 points or 0.39 percent.
BPCL, Motherson, Nestle,Max Healthcare,REC were the top gainers on the Nifty, while losers included Adani Enterprises, Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone, and Eternal.On the sectoral front, Media, Metal, the Nifty Realty, and the IT underperformed, while the Auto and  Private Bank outperformed.In the broader markets, the Nifty MidCap was up 0.24 per cent while the Nifty SmallCap fell 0.74 per cent, according to agency reports.
Rupee Close:
On 31 Aug'26,the Indian rupee pared initial losses and settled for the day with gains of 26 paise at 95.17 (provisional) against the U.S. dollar on Monday, on possible RBI intervention, as rising crude oil prices and geopolitical strain weighed on the local unit.Forex traders said the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) might have intervened to support the currency at lower levels after market participants raised the probability of a rate hike by the U.S. Federal Reserve in September, pushing U.S. Treasury yields higher and triggering a broad dollar rally.
