The Indian share market traded lower on Wednesday amid rising crude oil prices, a sharp decline in the rupee, and profit booking in heavyweight stocks weighed on investor sentiment.At close, the Sensex was down 715.06 points or 0.92 percent at 76,755.05, and the Nifty was down 191.45 points or 0.79 percent at 23,996.25.
Bajaj Auto, Nestle, Tata Consumer, Power Grid Corp, ONGC were the top gainers on the Nifty, while losers included Interglobe Aviation, Jio Financial, Infosys, SBI, Dr Reddy's Labs.On the sectoral front, performance remained largely negative, with Nifty FMCG emerging as the top gainer, rising 0.65%, followed by Nifty Auto up 0.18%, according to agency reports.The broader market mirrored the weakness in the benchmark indices, with the Nifty Midcap 100 declining 1% and the Nifty Smallcap 100 falling 1.5%.
Rupee Close:
On 22 Jul'26,the Indian rupee depreciated by 34 paise to close at 96.59 (provisional) against the U.S. dollar on Wednesday , weighed down by surging crude oil prices and heightened geopolitical uncertainty.Forex traders said risk aversion in global markets and a negative trend in domestic equities further dented investor sentiments.
