Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has announced plans to file criminal and civil defamation suits against Congress leader Pawan Khera over allegations about his wife's foreign passports, overseas assets, and undisclosed wealth. Khera claims Riniki Bhuyan Sarma holds passports from three countries, owns Dubai properties, and is linked to a Wyoming-based company associated with a planned hotel venture, which Sarma denies as fabricated.Sarma, in a post on social media platform X, pointed out six anomalies, that included mismatch in name, UAE ID, and nationality. He said it was a "crude and poorly executed attempt at digital manipulation". "Truth will prevail. Those spreading misinformation will be held accountable. I am confident that Pawan Khera's campaign of falsehood is nearing its end. Eventually Mr Khera will go to Jail," he added in the post.

The documents being circulated show multiple glaring inconsistencies, suggesting a crude and poorly executed attempt at digital manipulation:
Surname mismatch — “SARMA” used instead of the official “SHARMA”

Earlier, Pawan Khera alleged that Riniki Bhuyan Sarma, wife of Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma, holds valid passports from the UAE, Egypt, and Antigua and Barbuda, along with overseas properties and a Wyoming-based company linked to a planned hotel business. He questioned why these were not disclosed in Sarma’s election affidavit, citing Indian laws against dual citizenship and mandatory asset declarations. Khera demanded Sarma’s arrest, disqualification, and an SIT probe, framing the allegations as both legal and ethical breaches.
