There is huge difference between a star and an actor.
Rajesh Khanna was a star. In his movie you would like to see Rajesh Khanna whatever character he played.
Sanjeev Kumar was an actor. You liked to see him as the character, he played. You never wanted to see Sanjeev Kumar without it.
His two biographies would say he struggled very hard to get into the films.
Somehow he was rejected as an actor for many years.
He would dress very shabbily. Might have been possible that some producer/ director would throw him out seeing his shabby, unpressed kurta and pant.
He never kept time, was a serial late comer. Other actors would always be angry with him.
He got along very well with all, never had ego issues with any actor.
Was unfortunate with his co-acting heroines like Nutan, Hema Malini, Jaya Bhaduri etc, because when he proposed, but all turned down for one reason or another.
Dilip Kumar was in awe, while watching Sanjeev Kumar‘s first shot in ‘Sangharsh’ film saying he was too good !!
Sanjeev Kumar was really great. If you want to know what his acting - watch his films like Koshish, Anhonee, Khilona, Naya Din Nayi Raat, Yahi Hain Zindagi, Sholay, Vidhata etc.
