Rajnath Singh tells youth to fight injustice through democracy

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Saturday urged the youth to draw inspiration from Dr BR Ambedkar’s message of “Educate, Agitate and Organise” by acquiring knowledge, questioning injustice through constitutional means and bringing change through democratic methods, according to agency reports.
Addressing students at the convocation ceremony of Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar University in Lucknow, Singh said Ambedkar had emphasised pursuing social and economic objectives through constitutional avenues.Referring to Ambedkar’s final address to the Constituent Assembly, Singh said violence, anarchy and unconstitutional methods cannot be justified when democratic and constitutional mechanisms are available. He described such practices as the “grammar of anarchy” that must be abandoned.
Singh said universities should shape young minds around justice, equality, liberty and fraternity while preparing students to contribute to nation-building. He stressed that education should develop critical thinking, practical skills and a commitment to using knowledge for society’s benefit.Recalling Ambedkar’s emphasis on character and humility, Singh said knowledge and achievements must be accompanied by moral values and ethical conduct. He urged students to look beyond personal success and contribute as job creators, problem-solvers and agents of positive change.
The Defence Minister also called on young people to embrace continuous learning and adaptability amid rapid technological and economic changes. He urged them to work as part of “Team India” towards building a Viksit Bharat by 2047.Highlighting India’s progress, Singh pointed to initiatives such as Aatmanirbhar Bharat, semiconductor manufacturing, digital public infrastructure, startups and the manufacturing sector. He also highlighted advances in space technology, including human spaceflight programmes, the planned Indian space station and the growing role of private space startups.
Singh said research and development expenditure had doubled over the past 12 years and credited the National Education Policy with strengthening the education and innovation ecosystem. He said India had also strengthened its position in the Global Innovation Index and emerged as the world’s third-largest startup ecosystem. He stressed that India’s development must go beyond economic growth to include its culture, civilisation and heritage.
“Economic strength makes a nation prosperous, while cultural self-confidence makes it great,” Singh said.He added that the younger generation’s growing confidence in India’s identity, civilisation and future was a defining feature of “New India”.
Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak, Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar University Vice-Chancellor Raj Kumar Mittal, and faculty and staff members were present at the event
