In MP bye- election's campaign, former chief minister and Congress leader, Kamal Nath' s reported comment against a woman minister Imarti Devi has creted a storm in the state politics, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has criticised his party colleague Kamal Nath’s comment on BJP leader Imarti Devi and said that it is unfortunate. Addressing the media in Waynad in Kerala, on Tuesday, Rahul Gandhi said, “Kamal Nath ji is from my party but personally, I don't like the type of language that he used. I don't appreciate it, regardless of who he is. It is unfortunate.”Reacting to Rahul Gandhi’s remarks, Kamal Nath later said, “It is Rahul Gandhi's opinion. I have already clarified the context in which I made that statement... Why should I apologise when I did not intend to insult anyone? If anyone felt insulted, I have already expressed regret.” After a severe backlash, Madhya Pradesh Congress chief Kamal Nath has expressed regret over his remarks and asserted that he did not say anything disrespectful.
But BJP seems to be not in a mood to leave this .MP CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Tuesday slammed state Congress chief Kamal Nath for his ‘item’ remark on Imarti Devi who is contesting the Dabra by-election on a BJP ticket. Calling the Congress leader shameless, CM Shivraj Chouhan picked apart the ‘apology’ offered by Kamal Nath after backlash on the statement. “This was no regret, ifs and buts were being used, while expressing regret over a statement, towards someone who was in his cabinet till a few months back,” Shivraj Singh Chouhan said. Why can't he offer a direct apology? I have no expectations from him but I want to ask this from Congress president Sonia Gandhi, what action is she taking against him? I had written a letter to her and if she does not respond to my letter, it would be safe to presume that she agrees with what Kamal Nath said about Imarti Devi,” MP CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan said.
Meanwhile, the Congress has written a letter to Shivraj Singh Chouhan asking him to ban the use of the word item from all government communications. The letter has been written by Congress media department vice-president Bhupendra Gupta. Congress leader Kamal Nath kicked up a row after making derogatory comments on a woman candidate during a poll rally in Madhya Pradesh.Addressing a poll meeting on Sunday in Gwalior's Dabra town where the BJP has fielded Imarti Devi, Kamal Nath said the Congress candidate was a "simple person" unlike the opponent who was an "item".
