President Droupadi Murmu paid tribute to the victims of the 2001 Gujarat earthquake during her visit to the Smritivan Earthquake Memorial and Museum in Kutch. On her two-day visit on Friday, she was warmly welcomed by Governor Acharya Devvrat, Kutch's Minister-in-charge Prafulla Pansheriya, and Anupam Anand, CEO of Gujarat State Disaster Management Authority. To promote environmental conservation, the President planted trees within the Smritivan premises. Exploring the museum's galleries, President Murmu learned about the origin of life, human evolution, and the impact of natural disasters, including the devastating 2001 earthquake. She also experienced the event through the world's largest earthquake simulator and watched videos depicting the resilience and courage of survivors.During her visit, President Murmu interacted with local artists who performed "Ashanu Geet," showcasing the rich cultural heritage of Kutch. She was accompanied by several dignitaries, including Kutch District Collector Amit Arora and other senior officials.
Continuing her Gujarat visit, President Draupadi Murmu graced the 44th graduation ceremony of the National Institute of Design (NID) in Ahmedabad. A total of 430 students were awarded degrees, including PhDs for three scholars. In her address, the President highlighted NID's pivotal role in India's design landscape and its influence on social and economic development through innovative solutions.
Emphasizing the importance of design in addressing societal challenges, President Murmu praised NID for blending tradition with modernity, contributing to both rural and urban progress. She encouraged graduates to utilize their skills for societal benefit and contribute to nation-building.
Governor Acharya Devvrat lauded NID's legacy of excellence, urging students to play a crucial role in realizing Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision of a "Developed India." Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel inspired graduates to drive innovation while preserving India's cultural heritage, aligning with the vision of "Design in India, Design for the World." Union Minister Piyush Goyal underscored the significance of design in India's historical and cultural context, urging students to innovate and reach new heights. The ceremony celebrated NID's contributions to nation-building and its impact on global design trends.
Aditionally, President Droupadi Murmu attended the convocation ceremony at the National Forensic Sciences University in Gandhinagar. She emphasized the importance of a justice-based social system in building a developed India that balances heritage and progress. The President highlighted the Ministry of Home Affairs' initiatives to enhance forensic sciences, emphasizing that a robust justice system must be inclusive. She urged students to ensure fair and swift justice for all, especially the underprivileged. President Murmu noted changes in crime investigation laws, making it mandatory for forensic experts to investigate serious crime scenes. The Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita mandates time-bound development of forensic facilities across states. The President emphasized the growing demand for forensic experts due to technological advancements, urging law enforcement to stay vigilant as criminals adopt new tactics. She expressed confidence in the university’s role in strengthening the forensic system, increasing conviction rates, and deterring crime.
