In Karnataka, ruling party Congress and the BJP-led Opposition have condemned actor Kamal Haasan for his controversial statement on Kannada.“Kannada has a long-standing history. Poor Kamal Haasan, he is unaware of it,” Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said, responding to the brewing controversy.

BJP leader R Ashoka calling him a “mental patient” and others calling him out for being factually incorrect, and insulting the cultural identity of the Kannada language. “I would urge the government that it should boycott all Kamal Haasan’s films in Karnataka, otherwise he will keep acting like a mental patient,” Ashoka said.
Haasan’s statement sparked anger across sections of society, including pro-Kannada groups and cultural activists, who have demanded a clarification or apology from the actor. meanwhile, in Thuruvanathapuram on Wednesday, Kamal Haasan says, "What I said was said out of love and a lot of historians have taught me language history. I didn't mean anything.Politicians are not qualified to talk about language. They don't have the qualifications to talk about it, including me. Let us leave all these very in-depth discussions to historians, archaeologists and language experts."

Tamil Nadu BJP leader Tamilisai Soundararajan also weighed in on the controversy. “I'm a proud Tamil and Indian. When we express our opinion about languages we should be careful. We should be constructive, not controversial. Kamal Haasan criticises other languages to appease DMK,” she said.
