In Uttar Pradesh, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday inaugurated Purvanchal Expressway at KarwalKheri in Sultanpur district. The Purvanchal Expressway is 341 Km long. It starts from village Chaudsarai, district Lucknow located on Lucknow-Sultanpur road (NH-731) and ends at village Hydaria located on National Highway No. 31, 18 km east of UP-Bihar border.
Addressing the gathering Modi the Purvanchal Expressway is the symbol of the state’s development and will strengthen its economy. Targeting the opposition, PM Modi also said that the “earlier governments neglected the development of the eastern region" of the state. "The airstrip on the Purvanchal Expressway will give a message to those who neglected the country's security," PM Modi said.
The manner in which they discriminated, the manner in which they did welfare of only their family - people of UP will permanently remove them from the path of the state's development. Modi said that the politics done in UP, the manner in which governments were run for a long time - they didn't pay attention to UP's all-round and holistic development. One region of UP and its people were given away to mafia and poverty. Development under previous chief ministers was limited to places where they had homes and families,he said. PM Modi landed on the highway airstrip in an IAF C-130 Hercules plane.

PM also witnessed an Airshow by the Indian Air Force on the 3.2 km long airstrip constructed on the Expressway to enable landing and take-off of Indian Air Force fighter planes in case of emergency.
