PM Modi embarks on four day visit to Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday embarked on a four-day visit to Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan aimed at strengthening India’s strategic partnerships in Central Asia and deepening its long-standing civilisational ties with the region.
According to agency reports,Modi will first travel to Tashkent for a two-day visit at the invitation of Uzbekistan President Shavkat Mirziyoyev. During his stay, Modi is expected to hold discussions with Mirziyoyev on ways to further expand bilateral cooperation in key areas, including trade and investment, digital connectivity, defence and energy.In his departure statement, Modi said the India-Uzbekistan Strategic Partnership has made significant progress in recent years and expressed confidence that his discussions with Mirziyoyev would help advance cooperation further.

Over the next few days, will be in Uzbekistan and the Kyrgyz Republic.

He also highlighted the shared development visions of Viksit Bharat and Yangi Uzbekistan, which are expected to provide a broader framework for bilateral engagement.As part of his Uzbekistan visit, Modi will pay tribute to India’s enduring historical and cultural links with the country by visiting the Shastri Memorial and the Mahatma Gandhi Centre at the Tashkent State University of Oriental Studies.
The Prime Minister described these engagements as a tribute to the close cultural and people-to-people ties between India and Uzbekistan.This will be Modi’s fourth visit to Uzbekistan. He first visited the country in 2015 and subsequently travelled there in 2016 and 2022 to attend Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summits.India and Uzbekistan have maintained close engagement through bilateral as well as multilateral platforms. President Mirziyoyev visited India on a State Visit in 2018 and also participated in the Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit in 2019.
Following his engagements in Tashkent, Modi will travel to Bishkek, where he will attend the 26th SCO Summit at the invitation of Kyrgyzstan President Sadyr Zhaparov. The summit is significant as it coincides with the 25th anniversary of the organisation.India has been an active member of the SCO since becoming a full member in 2017. The grouping brings together countries from across Eurasia to promote cooperation on security, economic and regional issues.Modi said India would seek to advance its vision for the region based on Security, Connectivity and Opportunity.He also stressed the need for collective efforts to counter terrorism, separatism and extremism, which he said continue to pose threats to peace and stability in the region and beyond.
During his Kyrgyzstan visit, the Prime Minister is expected to meet President Zhaparov and other leaders attending the SCO summit.Modi will also attend the opening ceremony of the **6th World Nomad Games**, an international sporting and cultural event showcasing the traditional heritage of Central Asian communities.Modi said the event would celebrate Central Asia’s rich living heritage, which India holds in deep respect.Modi expressed confidence that his four-day visit would further consolidate India’s strategic partnerships with Central Asian countries while strengthening civilisational and people-to-people connections.He said the visit would also contribute to India’s broader pursuit of peace, stability and prosperity, which remain central to New Delhi’s engagement with the international community.
