Pensioners, Keep PPO safe in Digi Locker

Pension Payment Order (PPO) is extremely important document for  central government pensioners. Several pensioners, over a period of time, unfortunately  misplace the original copies of their PPO. In  absence of PPO, pensioners have to face innumerable hardship at various stages of their retired life. More over the widespread Covid-19 pandemic  has put the  newly retiring officials into a dilemma to physically receive hard copies of  PPO either from their existing offices or banks. Many times, banks do not give PPO numbers to pensioners or their families. Not having PPO number, the pensioner may have to face many problems.

After such hazardous problems came in to the notice of  Department of Pension & Pensioners’ Welfare, the Department has decided to integrate  electronic Pension Payment Order (e-PPO) with Digi Locker. Such documents in Digi Locker system are deemed to be at par with original physical documents.

Accordingly, pensioners can now store their electronic PPO in DigiLocker. DigiLocker is a digital document wallet for citizens. In this, they can keep their important documents electronically and can reach them. This will eliminate the possibility of delay to new Pensioners. This step also ensures that they are not forced to take a physical copy of their pension payment order during the Covid-19 crisis. For the convenience of pensioners, Digital copies of the document can be accessed anywhere, anytime in DigiLocker. In this way the fear of losing or misplacing original PPO of pensioners is also  eliminated.

This facility has been created with ‘Bhavishya’ software. This  is a single-window platform for Pensioners, right from the start of their Pension processing, till the end of the process. “Bhavishya” portal shall now provide an option to retiring employee, to link their Digi-locker account with their “Bhavishya” account and obtain their e-PPO in a seamless manner.       

Now look at the procedure as  how one can store e-PPO in the Digi Locker:

• Bhavishya” provides an option to retiring employees for linking their Digi-locker account with “Bhavishya” to get e-PPO.

• The option is available to the retiree at the time of filling of retirement forms, as well as after submission of the forms.

• Retiree will sign into their Digi-locker account from Bhavishya and authorize Bhavishya to PUSH the e-PPO to Digi Locker.

• As soon as e-PPO is issued, it is automatically pushed  into corresponding Digi locker account and the retiree is informed about the same through SMS and Email by Bhavishya.

• To view/download e-PPO, retiree has to log into his Digi Locker account and simply click on the link.

Department of Pension & Pensioners’ Welfare has requested the Administrative Divisions of all Ministries/Department and attached/subordinate offices to bring these instructions to the notice of all concerned for compliance.
