Panel to probe lapses in Bengaluru central jail, BJP wants CM to quit

A major controversy has erupted in Karnataka over controversial videos from inside Bengaluru's Parappana Agrahara Central Prison, showing inmates, including a convicted ISIS recruiter and a serial rapist, living a life of luxury. The footage has led to an outcry. The BJP on Monday accused the Congress government in Karnataka of providing VVIP facilities to an alleged ISIS recruiter and other inmates in state jails and demanded the resignation of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Home Minister G Parameshwara. This came after some undated videos surfaced on social media purportedly showing prison inmates using mobile phones, watching television and even partying inside the prisons. Addressing a press conference at the BJP headquarters in New Delhi, party national spokesperson Shezaad Poonawalla showed a video footage in which alleged ISIS recruiter Juhad Hameed Shakeel Manna is seen using a mobile phone inside the jail, and accused the Congress of giving patronage to him.

Karnataka BJP's S. Prakash and former Police Commissioner Bhaskar Rao slamming the Siddaramaiah-led government for a complete collapse of prison administration. According to BJP spokesperson S. Prakash, 'The Home Ministry has lost complete control over the police department in Karnataka.' The visuals show prisoners partying, using smartphones, and enjoying special amenities, prompting promises of a high-level inquiry from Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Home Minister G. Parameshwara. The opposition BJP has announced protests, demanding accountability and the resignation of the Home Minister for the gross security lapses.

The Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) on Monday held a protest outside Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah's official residence in Bengaluru, after a viral video of Central Jail.During the protest, BJP MLA CN Ashwnath Narayan also slammed the Congress, saying that the party is in support of terrorists, which is "completely anti-national."

Meanwhile, Karnataka Home Minister G Parameshwara on Monday announced the formation of a committee led by Additional Director General of Police (Law and Order) R Hitendra to probe the lapses in Bengaluru central jail here. The announcement comes after videos surfaced purportedly showing inmates enjoying special privileges like access to smartphones and private television sets in their barracks at the central prison. The committee includes Inspector General of Police Sandeep Patil and Superintendents of Police Amaranath Reddy and C B Rishyanth as members, he told reporters after a high-level meeting with senior police officers.

As per reports, K Suresha, Chief Superintendent of Prison, was transferred and Superintendent of Prison Myageri and Assistant Superintendent Ashok Bhajantri were suspended.
