With a view to boost education sector, a Sainik School will be set up at Malanpur in Bhind district,about25 km from Gwalior It will be second Sainik School after Rewa in Madhya Pradesh. There are 33 Sainik Schools functioning in the country and 17 new including one in Bhind are proposed. Gwalior is an important educational centre of central India encompassing universities and schools including pristine Scindia School.
In principal approval by Ministry of Defence(MoD) had already been accorded and now it’s a matter of procedural formalities like land transfer and development of necessary infrastructure. The boarding school area spanning over 51.43 acre land with intake capacity of 500 students will be established at an estimated cost of Rs 100 crore. Union Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar said after the transfer of land to MOD, a memorandum of understanding will be signed with state education department. An educational society working under MOD will be instrumental in the development of school project. Malanpur is major industrial area in the region and was developed during 1984 by late Madhavrao Scindia. Tomar said sprawling campus to accommodate at least 1000 persons including 500 boarding students, staff quarters, administrative building, play grounds, common mess will be developed.
Chambalites,youth and old, were always obsessed with the idea to serve the nation by joining defense services or paramilitary. In the absence of any major facility close to their reach, aspirants were required to travel far off places in search of specialized training at school level. Now with opening of Sainik School at Malanpur, these aspirants will not only nurture better career but also realize their cherished dream. A Gwalior chapter of Sainoba (Sainik School Rewa, old boys association) has welcomed the move.
