Venezuelan opposition leader Maria Corina Machado dedicated her Nobel Peace Prize on Friday to the people of Venezuela -- and US President Donald Trump, for his "decisive support" for her country's pro-democracy movement. "I dedicate this prize to the suffering people of Venezuela and to President Trump for his decisive support of our cause!" she wrote on X.

US President Donald Trump said in The White House that Venezuelan opposition leader Maria Corina Machado accepted it “in his honour.” Speaking to the media, Trump said, “The person who actually got the Nobel Prize called me and said, ‘I am accepting this in honour of you because you really deserved it,’ a very nice thing to do.” He added cheekily, “I did not say then, ‘Give it to me,’ though,” prompting laughter among those present. Trump emphasised that he has “been helping her along the way” and reiterated, “I am happy because I saved millions of lives.”
