The domestic share market indices declined on Wednesday, weighed down by IT, FCMG, and auto shares, amid geopolitical crisis.At close, the Sensex was down 183.15 points or 0.24 percent at 77,472.94, and the Nifty was down 126.80 points or 0.52 percent at 24,207.75.
Kotak Mahindra Bank, UltraTech Cement, Axis Bank, HDFC Life, JSW Steel were the top gainers on the Nifty, while losers included Infosys, Power Grid Corp, Bharti Airtel, Tech Mahindra and Shriram Finance.On the sectoral front, metal and private bank indices rose 1% each, and PSU Bank index added 0.7%. On the other hand, IT and Infra indices shed 1% each, auto, consumer durables, Energy, FMCG, oil & gas, realty down 0.5-0.9%, according to agency reports.The broader market outperformed the benchmark indices, with the Nifty Midcap ended marginally lower, while smallcap index gaining 0.8 percent.
Rupee Close:
On 26 Aug'26,the Indian rupee pared initial losses and settled for the day higher by 26 paise at 95.44 against the US dollar on Wednesday, driven by positive domestic markets, a weaker greenback, and a fall in crude oil prices, according to media reports.Forex traders said the overall weakness in the US dollar on declining odds of a rate hike may support the rupee at lower levels.
