Nepal’s Home Minister Om Prakash Aryal on Saturday called all the stakeholders concerned to sit for a dialogue with the caretaker government instead of organising street protests ahead of the March 5 general election. The Home Ministry also warned the general public that protest activities announced through social media could be infiltrated by elements “seeking to create instability.” “The government is always ready for dialogue and discussion to sort out problems,” Home Minister Aryal said while talking to media persons after holding a crucial meeting with chiefs of various security agencies in Kathmandu.According to him, the security meeting made meticulous assessment of present security situation of the country. "Government is committed to creating atmosphere conducive to the March 5 election with the normalization of security," the Minister vowed.
A high level security meeting was held in the presence of Prime Minister Sushila Karki at her official residence, Baluwatar. According to the prime minister’s secretariat, the security chiefs presented their assessments of the situation and discussed possible security challenges.
Meanwhile, The government has invited Durga Prasai, who has been campaigning for the restoration of Nepal as a Hindu state, for talks. This follows his calls for new protests for the cause. Prasai has made several provocative statements against Prime Minister Sushila Karki, Home Minister Om Prakash Aryal, Kathmandu mayor Balendra Shah, and Gen Z leader Sudan Gurung, among others. Prasai, in interviews with various media channels, claims that thousands of people will come out on the streets and block major highways, in what he terms a fresh agitation for the restoration of Hindu state that will start on Monday after the Chhath festival.
