Uttar Pradesh government has appointed Mukul Goel, ADG BSF, as State's new Director General of Police. He is a 1987 batch UP cadre IPS officer. He was Additional DGP Law and order of the state during previous Akhilesh Yadav regime. A B-tech from IIT Delhi Goel belongs to Muzaffarnagar distric of the state. He has served as district police chief in several districts including Meerut, Varanasi, Azamgarh, Saharanpur and Gorakhpur. Before joining BSF, NDRF and ITBP at centre deputation Goel has also served as DIG Bareilly, Agra and Kanpur.
UP government had submitted a panel of three IPS officers of State cadre with experiance of 30 years of service to the UPSC for consideration for DGP post. They include Nasir Kamal, Mukul Goel both on are central deputation and RP Singh DGP rank officer serving in the state. UPSC has given its nod on the name of Goel. He will be replacing HC Awasthi who retired from service on Wednesday, June 30,2021. Awasthi had reliquinced his office handing over the charge to Prashant Kumar ADG law and order of the state. Having MBA degree Goel will face a big challenge next year for conducting free and faire UP assembly elections. Election for Zila Panchayat chairman posts is already underway amidst allegations of misuse of administrative and police machinery in the favour of ruling BJP. He will attain age of supernuation in the year of 2024 following completion of two years and half months of his tenure.
