As as part of preparations for Simhastha Mahakumbh 2028, the Madhya Pradesh government has announced the construction of a new bypass road in Ujjain at an estimated cost of over Rs700 crore. The announcement was made on Friday by Chief Minister Mohan Yadav.Addressing the International Conference titled “Mahakal: The Master of Time,” the Chief Minister revealed that the Bhoomi Pujan (groundbreaking ceremony) for the ambitious project has already been performed, marking the beginning of work on the key connectivity initiative.
Describing the project as a significant boost for the city, Yadav said the bypass is being developed specifically to cater to the massive influx of devotees expected during the 2028 religious gathering. He congratulated the residents of Ujjain, calling the project an “important gift of modern infrastructure.”
Highlighting the global stature of the Kumbh, the Chief Minister noted that the Simhastha is the largest congregation in the world, transcending geographical boundaries. He reiterated the government’s commitment to ensuring seamless coordination and efficient management for the mega event, with an estimated 35 to 40 crore pilgrims expected to attend.The proposed bypass road is aimed at easing traffic congestion and improving connectivity across the city, ensuring smoother movement for both residents and visiting devotees during the event.
The announcement is part of a broader development strategy that seeks to transform Ujjain into a hub of spiritual and scientific significance. The state government is working towards positioning the city as a “Time Capital” while also planning a modern Science City, reflecting an integrated vision for Simhastha 2028.In addition to the bypass project, the Chief Minister outlined several other infrastructure initiatives. These include the widening and beautification of key routes leading to the Mahakaleshwar Temple, development of new parking zones, establishment of modern bus terminals, and upgrades to drainage and sewerage systems across the city.
The government has earmarked over Rs2,500 crore for infrastructure development in Ujjain over the next two years. Plans are also underway to construct a new helipad, enhance airport facilities, and introduce smart city amenities to deliver a world-class experience for pilgrims.Reaffirming the government’s vision, Yadav said efforts are focused on making Simhastha 2028 a grand, well-managed, and globally significant spiritual event.
