More people got energy access under Modi: Australia PM Albanese

Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi with expanding access to energy in India, while highlighting the strengthening relationship between New Delhi and Canberra. Speaking at an Asia Society Policy Institute event in New York, Albanese said more people had gained access to energy in India during Modi’s tenure than during any comparable period, region or country in human history. Albanese also described Modi as someone with whom Australia has developed a strong relationship, underscoring the closer ties between the two countries.

Albanese’s remarks come against the backdrop of continuing concerns over global energy security and disruptions to major shipping routes.While countries such as Pakistan and Bangladesh have struggled with energy shortages, India has largely maintained stable supplies, with only a limited increase in fuel prices. Earlier this year, PM Modi attributed India’s relative energy stability to its increasingly diversified import sources, saying the country now procures crude oil, LPG and PNG from 41 countries.
