The southwest monsoon arrived in Delhi on Thursday morning, five days after its normal onset date of June 27, bringing rainfall and relief from hot and humid conditions.The India Meteorological Department (IMD) said it is for the first time since 2021 that monsoon has arrived in July. The IMD has forecast thunderstorms accompanied by rain over many parts of Delhi during the day, with generally cloudy skies expected to prevail.. It also forecast thunderstorms accompanied by rain on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.According to IMD, the monsoon is expected to advance further into several parts of North India during the next 2 to 3 days.

The southwest monsoon entered parts of Rajasthan on Thursday, seven days later than its normal onset date, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said. The monsoon has advanced into eastern parts of the state, with its northern limit currently passing through Tonk, Jaipur and Alwar, The IMD officials said the monsoon is expected to advance further into several parts of North India in the coming days. A yellow alert has been issued for parts of western and central India due to expected heavy rainfall.
Mumbai witnessed relentless rainfall over the past 24 hours, with the eastern suburbs recording the highest precipitation, leading to widespread waterlogging and disruptions across several parts of the city. Among the worst-hit locations in the eastern suburbs, Mitha Municipal School in Mulund recorded the highest rainfall at 218.6 mm, followed by the S Ward Office with 212 mm. Paspoli Municipal School in Powai received 208.4 mm, while Gavanpada Fire Station and Mankhurd Fire Station recorded 205.8 mm and 200 mm, respectively.
Heavy rain also triggered landslides, flooding and disruptions in parts of Himachal Pradesh, Karnataka, Maharashtra and Arunachal Pradesh.
