Massive Ukrainian drone attack on Russia kills at least six

Ukraine has launched one of its largest drone attacks since the start of the war, causing a fire at a distribution warehouse near Moscow and killing at least six people overnight, according to Russian authorities. Russia’s defence ministry said it had shot down 822 drones, while the mayor of Moscow, Sergei Sobyanin, reported that 600 drones were launched towards the capital’s region, of which 201 were destroyed.It was the biggest air raid on the Russian capital in two years, the mayor told the Tass news agency, although the rapid recent expansion of Ukraine’s drone’s capability could mean it was the largest attack wave since the start of the war in 2022.Fires were also reported at a pharmaceutical warehouse in Domodedovo and an industrial facility in Voskresensk. Three people were injured in the attacks.

Wildberries, Russia’s version of Amazon, has become a recurring target in Ukraine’s campaign against Russian logistics infrastructure. At least 20 of the company’s warehouses have been attacked since mid-July. The Koledino distribution centre hit overnight is one of Wildberries’ major Moscow-region hubs.Five people were reported to have been killed in Russia’s southern Rostov region, which borders Ukraine.
Russian drone missile attacks killed seven people in Ukraine, including two in the central city of Kryvyi Rih, while a Spanish F-18 jet shot down what appeared to be a Russia drone that had crossed the border into Romania.Ukraine’s air force said Russian forces used ballistic and cruise missiles as well as drones against the Kyiv, Kremenchuk and Kryvyi Rih regions. Air defences shot down or suppressed three cruise missiles and 85 drones, while strikes were recorded at 13 locations.
Russia’s defense ministry said the strikes targeted military-industrial facilities in Kyiv, the Kremenchuk oil refinery and the ArcelorMittal mining and metallurgical complex in Kryvyi Rih. The main energy and blast furnace production facility there was damaged and production was suspended, according to RBC-Ukraine.
