The domestic share market extended losses for the second consecutive day on Tuesday as bank, auto, realty, and healthcare stocks weighed on investor sentiment amid renewed US-Iran tension.At close, the Sensex was down 12.99 points or 0.02 percent at 76,944.28, and the Nifty was down 24.60 points or 0.10 percent at 24,055.80.
ITC, Adani Ports, Bharti Airtel, HCL Tech, ONGC were the top gainers on the Nifty, while losers included Shriram Finance, Maruti Suzuki, Nestle, Interglobe Aviation, Max Healthcare.On the sectoral front,Nifty Healthcare, Auto, Realty, and Pharma underperformed. Meanwhile, Nifty FMCG and the Nifty IT outperformed, according to agency reports.The broader market underperformed the benchmark indices, with Nifty midcap index falling 1.4 percent and smallcap index down 0.2 percent.
Rupee Close:
On 1 Sep'26,the Indian rupee gained 28 paise to close at nearly two-month high of 94.94 (provisional) against the US dollar on Tuesday on robust domestic growth, controlled fiscal slippage and portfolio-related inflows.
Forex traders said recent MSCI-linked inflows are offering temporary support to the rupee.Moreover, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) might have intervened to support the domestic currency, they said.
