18 killed after consuming toxic liquor in Pune, Pimpri-Chinchwad

In Maharashtra, at least 18 people have died across Pimpri-Chinchwad and Pune city after consuming poisonous liquor. The tragedy escalated rapidly after five people died in Hadapsar and Kalepadal, closely following 13 fatalities in the Dapodi-Fugewadi belt. Police have arrested eight people, including an individual identified as Yogesh Wankhede for his alleged role in supplying illicit liquor.Wankhede, who was previously taken into custody by the Pune State Excise Department, is accused of distributing the alcohol to both targeted locations. State Excise Commissioner Atul Kanade said, “We detained one Yogesh Wankhede, who had supplied liquor to both Phugewadi and Hadapsar. He has been handed over to the Pimpri-Chinchwad police, and they are taking further action.
Following the deaths, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis directed the police commissioners of Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad to carry out a detailed investigation and identify those responsible for the tragedy.

Victims reportedly succumbed during treatment after being hospitalised with severe symptoms of vomiting and acute stomach pain following alcohol consumption.
