In Karnataka, Police on Tuesday used force to disperse a large number of people gathered in Belagavi to demonstrate over Panchamasali Lingayats' reservation demand under 2A category. According to report, Lingayath’s Panchamasali community staged a huge protest demanding 2A reservation & OBC status near Suvarna Vidhan Soudha in Belagavi. The protest was led by Kudalasangama Panchamasali Peetha Seer Basava Jaya Mruthyunjaya Swami BJP MLA Basanaouda.People from across the state have turned up for the protest. The protestors have planned to seize the Suvarna Vidhana Soudha over delays The winter session is underway at Belagavi. In the clash the protesters also damaged government vehicles and those belonging to MLAs.

Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah says, "The leaders of the Panchamasali community were called for a discussion, but they did not turn up. In a democracy, there is a right to fight and we are not opposing the right to fight."
