Knowledge churning by AI akin to ‘Samudra Manthan’, says UP Minister

The rapid evolution of Artificial Intelligence (AI) was likened to the mythological concept of samudra manthan by Uttar Pradesh Horticulture Minister Dinesh Pratap Singh, who inaugurated the ‘Global Artificial Intelligence Confluence 2026’ at Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Gorakhpur University.The two-day conference, which began on Friday, has brought together over 180 delegates from 26 countries to deliberate on innovation in AI and its broader socio-economic implications. The event is being jointly organised by the university, Meta, and the World Organisation of Students and Youth.

Drawing a parallel with the ancient samudra manthan—the churning of the ocean described in Hindu scriptures Singh described AI as a powerful force capable of generating immense knowledge and opportunities. However, he cautioned that such technological advancement must be guided by ethical values and aligned with global welfare.
Experts at the conference echoed similar sentiments on responsible AI development. Rajiv Prakash, Director of IIT Bhilai, stressed that AI should function as a human assistant rather than a replacement, particularly in critical sectors such as agriculture and healthcare.Meanwhile, Ashish Chauhan, national organising secretary of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad, raised concerns over data sovereignty. He called for the development of indigenous AI models to prevent global monopolies and ensure that India retains control over its digital resources.The conference is being presided over by Vice-Chancellor Poonam Tandon and is set to conclude on Saturday, with discussions focusing on balancing innovation with ethical governance in the rapidly advancing AI landscape.
