The world famous tourist destination- Khajuraho is now a days celebrating dacnce festival.The festival is usually conducted in February from the 20th to the 26th.This is the48th edition of Khajuraho Dance Festival . Through this festival, the world renowned artists show off their refined skills with the Indian classical dance styles such as Kathak, Odissi,Bharathanatyam, Kuchipudi, Manipuri, Mohiniattam, Udarta netuma, , Udarta netuma, performance. Kathakali and modern indian dance has also been added recently.This dance festival is being organized at the Khajuraho Temple, a UNESCO World Heritage Site in Madhya Pradesh which is famous for its ancient Hindu as well as Jain temples which took around a hundred years to take shape.the temple complex is divided into three spheres: the Western, Eastern, and the Southern. the event will take place in the Western complex.
The festival is being organized in this temple complex after 44 years.The archeological survey of India had prohibited the event to be held in this place many years ago after the complaints of vendalism of the statues were recieved. This restriction has been weighed off this year and the tickets are also provided free of cost on first come first get basis. The government has removed the tax too. The temples of Khajuraho are famous for the architectural symbol of the city style. Most of the temples were built between 885 AD to 1050 AD by the Chandela dynasty. Khajuraho was the religious capital of the Chandila dynasty, one of the most powerful Rajput dynasties in central India. The temples were made within the span of 100 years. Only 20 of the original 85 survive as of today. Tales of the beauty of Khajuraho are spread across the country and abroad. Magnificent statues made of stones which seem to be alive, are the identity of Khajuraho.
The motive behind this festival is to preserve as well as celebrate the art and traditions of India presented in the form of dance. Khajuraho being the ideal site of testimony to Indian culture and traditions as origin of these classical dance were temples around the country. People gather from all over the world every year and get enchanted by the demonstration of art in the form of dance .The Khajuraho Dance Festival began in 1975 and since then has become one of the most anticipated cultural events in India. Art mart is a painting's exhibition of artists from around the world. Various other artworks are also included. Nepathya is a detailed performance of the traditional back stories generally of dance forms or other art forms. This time napathya will be solely dedicated to the kathak artform. Kala yatra is a vivid cultural display of classical dance forms of India and a showcase of different artforms from around the world. There will be a conference by the name of "kala varta" Joined by different world renowned artists. The event includes a beautiful fair organized for promoting national culture and heritage. Chalchitra is also being organized which showcases films on various arts and artists. Pranati is a special exhibition organized to showcase the illustrious contribution of the infamous painter Shri Laxminarayan Bhavsar. Lastly, another exhibition and award ceremony will be hosted by the state government to acknowledge the artists and promote their artworks.
