The 47th Khajuraho Dance Festival will begin from 20 February this year.It will be a 7-day dance festival. The Khajuraho Dance Festival organised by the Madhya Pradesh Kala Parishad, on the backdrop of the spectacular temples in Western area of Khajuraho, Chhatarpur district of Madhya Pradesh state every year in the month of February. The world renowned artists present their refined skills with the Indian classical dance styles such as Kathak, Odissi,Bharathanatyam, Kuchipudi and Manipuri dance performancees. Modern Indian dance has been added recently.
Performances take place in an open-air auditorium, usually in front of the Chitragupta Temple dedicated to Surya (the Sun God) and the Vishvanatha Temple dedicated to Lord Shiva, belonging to the western group which are one of the UNESCO World Heritage Sites.The motive behind this festival is to preserve as well as celebrate the art and traditions of India presented in the form of dance. Khajuraho being the ideal site of testimony to Indian culture and traditions as origin of these classical dance were temples around the country. People gather from all over the world every year and get enchanted by the demonstration of art in the form of dance .
The Khajuraho Dance Festival began in 1975 and since then it has become one of the most anticipated cultural events in India. This time again Naipathya, Art Mart, Kalavarta will also takes place. Art mart is an painting's exhibition of artists from around the world. Various other artworks are also included. Naipathya is a detailed performance of the traditional back stories generally in dance forms or other art forms.
This time the famous Kerala dance Kathakali likely to be included. This information was given at a meeting in Chhatapur, Collector, Shailendra Singh said that the district administration will try to include new proposals,if any, in the festival. Naeem Khan, a representative from Ustad Alauddin Khan Sangeet Kala Academy, Bhopal, gave details of the dance festival to be held in February. According to Naieem Khan this time Naphtya, Art Mart, Hunar, Kalavarta and Food Fair etc. will also be the main attractions of the dance festival.

It is quite easy to reach Khajuraho from all the big cities of the country. As far as arriving by air is concerned, Khajuraho city has its own airport, which is connected to different parts of the country. From here you can reach the dance festival venue by auto or taxi.There is also a railway station in Khajuraho, which is located 5 kilometers from the historical buildings. Khajuraho is connected via railway lines to all major cities of the country like Delhi, Jaipur, Agra, Udaipur, Varanasi, Prayagraj, Bh opal, Gwalior and Jhansi.You can also reach Khajuraho by road.
