Actor-turned-politician Kamal Haasan and three other newly elected members from Tamil Nadu on Friday took oath as Rajya Sabha MPs, marking their formal entry into the Upper House of Parliament.Alongside Kamal Haasan, the other MPs who took oath were Rajathi, S R Sivalingam, and P Wilson. While Haasan represents his party Makkal Needhi Maiam (MNM), the remaining three are members of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK).
In keeping with tradition and linguistic pride, all four members took their oaths in Tamil.The swearing-in comes a day after six Rajya Sabha members from Tamil Nadu retired on the completion of their terms, creating the vacancies now filled.Kamal Haasan’s induction into the Rajya Sabha is seen as a significant political step for the MNM founder, who has been vocal on various national and state issues since launching his party in 2018.
