A delegation from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), led by Vice Governor of Iwate Prefecture, Jun Sasaki, met Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel in Gandhinagar on Friday to explore avenues of cooperation in the semiconductor sector.The Japanese delegation was in India to participate in SEMICON India 2025 held in New Delhi. As part of their visit, they also toured Japanese semiconductor industries operating in Gujarat, including facilities in Dholera Special Investment Region (SIR). The delegation expressed gratitude to the state government for its continued support and acknowledged the rapid growth of Gujarat’s semiconductor ecosystem.
During the meeting, Chief Minister Patel emphasized that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, bilateral ties between India and Japan are expected to accelerate greater Japanese investments in Gujarat’s semiconductor sector.Highlighting the state’s progress, Patel noted that Gujarat, with four semiconductor plants already operational, is advancing with a strong commitment to becoming a hub for semiconductor manufacturing. He underlined the importance of long-term collaboration with Japan’s Iwate Prefecture, particularly in areas such as technical support, skill development, and research and development for high-quality semiconductor products.
The Chief Minister stressed that such partnerships would not only strengthen Gujarat’s semiconductor ecosystem but also enhance global competitiveness by combining Japanese expertise with Gujarat’s robust infrastructure and policy-driven environment.The meeting was attended by Additional Chief Secretary to the Chief Minister M.K. Das, Principal Secretary, Finance Department, T. Natarajan, Secretary, Science and Technology, P. Bharathi, along with other senior state officials.
