J'khand JPSC-JSSC stir: Student hospitalised as agitation enters day 14

A student on hunger strike was shifted to Sadar Hospital on Friday after his health deteriorated, as the agitation over alleged irregularities in recruitment examinations entered its 14th day in Ranchi.

According to agency reports, six students are continuing their hunger strike, while the All India Students' Association (AISA) and All India Students' Federation (AISF) have announced a march towards the Jharkhand Assembly during the ongoing Monsoon Session. The protesters are demanding cancellation of the 14th Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC) Civil Services Preliminary Examination and an independent probe into alleged irregularities in the recruitment process. They have sought an investigation by the CBI or a panel of retired High Court judges from outside the state. The students formed an 11-member delegation on Thursday for talks with the state government after Chief Minister Hemant Soren invited them for dialogue. However, the protesters have insisted on a direct meeting with the Chief Minister and a public assurance on their demands.
Ahead of the proposed Assembly march, prohibitory orders have been imposed within a 750-metre radius of the Vidhan Sabha from August 6 to August 12, between 6 am and 10 pm.The issue was also raised in the Assembly on Thursday, with opposition MLAs raising slogans over the students’ demands. The protest, launched on July 25 under the JPSC-JSSC Reforms Manch, has become one of the major student-led agitations in Jharkhand in recent years.
