Ending weeks of speculation, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Saturday officially declared senior leader and Nikol MLA Jagdish Panchal (also known as Jagdish Vishwakarma) as the new president of its Gujarat unit. Panchal, who was elected unopposed, became the 14th state president of the BJP.The announcement was made by Union minister and Gujarat BJP in-charge Bhupendra Yadav from the stage at the party headquarters, Shree Kamalam, in Gandhinagar. The oath-taking ceremony was attended by Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, outgoing president and Union minister C.R. Patil, central election in-charge K. Lakshman, and BJP organisation general secretary Ratnakar, among other senior leaders.

Earlier in the morning, Panchal departed from his residence at Vikram Park Society in Thakkarbapanagar, Ahmedabad, leading a massive rally of MLAs, MPs, and workers. The rally, which passed through Nikol and saw participation from all Ahmedabad legislators, gathered further strength as more supporters joined near Bhat in Gandhinagar before reaching Kamalam.Party workers described the rally as a show of strength and solidarity, underscoring the grassroots support that Panchal commands in his home turf of Ahmedabad.
On Friday, Panchal had filed his nomination papers at Kamalam in the presence of election officer Uday Kangad. Gujarat BJP spokesperson Yagnesh Dave confirmed that no other nominations were submitted, making Panchal the consensus choice for the top post. “His unanimous election reflects the trust and unity within the party,” Dave said.In addition to the state president’s post, 39 forms were submitted for the BJP’s National Council, all of which were also declared uncontested,according to information.
