Iran is demanding compensation from UAE, Bahrain, Qatar, Jordan and Saudi Arabia over the recent war, state news agency IRNA reported. According to the report, Tehran's UN envoy Amir Saeid Iravani accused the countries of breaching their international obligations. In his letter to UN chief Antonio Guterres and UN Security Council President Jamal Fares Alrowaiei, Iravani said it had submitted evidence showing the US and Israel used the territories of the five states to attack Iran and, “in some cases,” that they directly participated in strikes on civilian targets. So, they should be held responsible and pay compensation for the losses suffered during the war, he said.
Tehran claimed that Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Bahrain and Qatar, as well as Jordan, allowed their territories to be used for attacks on Iran after the US and Israel began strikes on February 28. He added that the countries “should make full reparation”, including compensation for all material damage. He claimed that the "conduct of those states in allowing their territories to be used by the aggressors against the Islamic Republic of Iran qualifies as an act of aggression". Iran also rejected UN Security Council Resolution 2817, which condemned Tehran for “egregious attacks” against Gulf states, calling it “manifestly unjust” and “legally untenable". Last month, the council adopted the Bahrain-sponsored resolution condemning Iran’s attacks on its neighbours.
The text, which had a record number of 136 co-sponsors, “demanded the immediate cessation of all attacks by the Islamic Republic of Iran against Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and Jordan”.
The regional hostilities escalated after the US and Israel launched joint strikes against Iran on Feb. 28, killing and injuring thousands. Tehran launched retaliatory strikes on Israel, Iraq, Jordan, and Gulf countries hosting US military assets before a two-week ceasefire was announced last week. Iranian and US delegations concluded 21 hours of talks in Islamabad, Pakistan, early Sunday, without reaching an agreement.
Iran reported that more than 140 historical sites were impacted during the conflict, including 38 listed as national heritage, with UNESCO urging protection of such locations. Officials also confirmed that a Tehran hospital was damaged during US-Israeli airstrikes on March 2, with the World Health Organization verifying the incident and patient evacuations taking place. These incidents form part of the destruction Tehran cites in its demand for war-related compensation.
