The three-day Conference, which will continue till January 16, will bring together Speakers and Presiding Officers from over 60 Commonwealth countries and semi-autonomous Parliaments. Addressing the media in New Delhi, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla said that on the first day, the meeting of the Executive Council will be held. He informed that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the Conference on 15th January. Birla said various sessions will be held during the Conference on topics including Use of Artificial Intelligence in Parliament, the sharing of best practices and innovative ideas among the participants, Social media’s impact on Parliamentarians, Enhancing public understanding of Parliament and Security, Health and Wellbeing of MPs. The Conference of Speakers and Presiding Officers of Commonwealth (CSPOC) was created in 1969 as an initiative of then Speaker of the House of the House of Commons of Canada Lucien Lamoureux, he said.

This landmark event marks historic participation and a proud moment in India’s democratic and parliamentary journey. India has previously hosted CSPOC in 1971, 1986, and 2010. CSPOC is an independent group with no formal affiliation with the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA), the Commonwealth Secretariat or the Commonwealth Heads of Government (CHOGM). However, its membership is the same as that of CPA.
